Military Order of the Cootie

The Military Order of the Cootie serves as a dedicated non-profit Veterans Service Organization. Widely recognized as "The Honor Degree of the VFW," our ranks consist of leaders from the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.
For almost a century, the Cooties have functioned as a vital organization, delivering social engagement and morale-boosting programs to VFW members. During World War II, our mission expanded significantly as we identified a critical need to support hospitalized troops and veterans undergoing recovery at Veterans Administration facilities nationwide. Our core service philosophy is defined by the mission to "Keep 'em Smiling in Beds of White." Annually, Cootie volunteers contribute thousands of hours of service, valued at over ten million dollars, to DVA Hospitals and residential care homes across the country. This profound commitment, performed alongside their duties as active VFW members, distinguishes MOC participants as combat veterans who remain deeply invested in their local communities, their fellow service members, and military families.

Currently, our Cooties volunteer events include Cootie Bingo at Martinsburg VA Medical facility, veteran outreach at Puller Veterans Care Center, and other independent and assisted living facilities within the Northern Virginia Area.Â
